The impressive show by tens of thousands of public-school teachers out to “Kill the Bill” in front of Wisconsin’s capitol might have gone unnoticed prior to the ‘Great Recession.’ Probably it would not have happened.

Bob Thomas is reporting on his Watch Blog that several members of the Weymouth Ordinance Review (OR) committee, the committee that germinated the proposed raises for Weymouth Town Officials, do not live or work in Weymouth. The charter requires residency.

Mayor Susan Kay
Weymouth Town Hall
75 Middle Street
Weymouth, MA 02189
Dear Mayor Kay:
I received your letter of Feb. 17, 2011 in which you stated: “At the present time there is no formal Town policy concerning the leaving of material at the limited public forum known as the senior center…your newspaper may be left there at this time.”
Initially, I thought you had realized your mistake in removing the Tinytown Gazette from the senior center. I assume you destroyed those 150 copies of the Gazette because you did not return them to me, nor did you call me to ask me to remove them before you had them destroyed.

Why do Ledger editorials NOT concentrate more on local rats?
The Patriot Ledger recently published an op-ed about former state Representative Jeff Perry being hired as a special sheriff in the office of Sheriff James Cummings in Barnstable County. According to reports, the position is mandated by state law but had gone unfilled for two years.

The Town of Hull, Massachusetts situated its high school on one of the most impossible sites in the town – Hull Gut – at the very end of town. Why? Rumors are a selectman wanted to sell the property, which wasn’t getting a lot of attention in the real estate market of the time. There were other sites, better sites. But the Town of Hull chose to build the school at Hull Gut – on a site that gets the full impact of every Nor’easter. Everyone knows schools best serve students and teachers when they are centrally located.
Something similar happened at Little Inner Harbor (LIH). In the 1700-1800s it was farmland and then a storm came by and turned it into a salt marsh, which is why old deeds still show property owners owning land under the water. After the site-altering storm, the farmers grew salt hay and put up a little dam so they could drain Little Inner Harbor and cut the hay.

Imagine my susprise when Writer Anne Hilbert sent me this e-mail:
“So you thought you lived in a free country, with freedom of speech, well think again.
A call from the Mayor’s office to the Whipple center (senior center) was placed the other day to remove all the Tinytown Gazettes from the building. I guess the Mayor was disturbed, this being an election year, she did not want these people know what she is really about.
But that’s OK, we have people who are spreading the news by photo copies through out town.
Town Council to receive 100 percent pay raise, Mayor to receive 40 percent Mayor places call to have all the TTGs destroyed.”
I sent this letter to Mayor Kay late Thursday afternoon:
Ms. Sue Kay
Mayor of Weymouth, Massachusetts
Dear Mayor Kay:
Please contact me regarding your order to destroy copies of my newspaper, the Tinytown Gazette, at City Hall and the Whipple Center. Also, advise if you have had my newspaper destroyed at any other Weymouth locations. We have been dropping papers at these two locations for 18 years.
I would have appreciated a call from you before you destroyed my product, which I manufacture twice a month for the edification and enjoyment of readers.
Very truly yours,
Tanna Kasperowicz

Editor’s note: Comcast.com is my home page and when I opened it yesterday I learned that Lindsay Lohan may have stole a necklace, now decreased Michael Jackson used to call Janet ‘fat’ and she’s still smarting over that, Ashlee Simpson filed divorce from Pete Wentz, Jenny McCarthy split with her boyfriend, and Simon Cowell says the new Idol judges are soft. Why do I care about any of this, I asked myself.

These people are never satisfied with having it all.
They always want more…
As reported by Anne Hilbert in the Tinytown Gazette’s Blog and print versions, the Ordinance Review Committee has been meeting during the day, when most working people don’t have the ability to attend. All the public gets is delayed minutes sometimes a month or so after the facts. In a recent meeting, the committee accepted the minutes of at least the six previous meetings. Well, I guess that’s pretty timely, wouldn’t you agree?
