SENATOR RUBIO DELIVERS SENATE FLOOR SPEECH ON THE DEBT
Rubio: “I would love nothing more than compromise. But I would say to you that compromise that’s not a solution is a waste of time. If my house was on fire, I can’t compromise about which part of the house I’m going to save. You save the whole house or it will all burn down. We either save this country or we do not. And to save it, we must seek solutions.”

To the Boston crowd,
Key details of the debt ceiling deal emerging tonight.
1) Balanced budget amendment is no longer required. Major compromise, many GOP will hate this, but will probably be replaced by House Dems in the final vote. See my post here:
2) On the numbers, it’s roughly the same as what the GOP wanted. Immediate debt ceiling increase and immediate cuts. Then, another $1.5 trillion increase (probably next year) as long as that much in cuts are found. However, weird detail — if $1.2 to $1.5 trillion is cut, a dollar-for-dollar increase in the debt ceiling is allowed.
And if anything less than $1.2 trillion is cut, we still get a debt ceiling increase of $1.2 trillion. Subject to congressional disapproval, but I bet it could still happen. GOP should hate this as well, seems like the second major point of compromise.
But again, the numbers are basically the GOP’s…

Has the reality of the fiscal impasse on the Hill become painfully obvious?
Most want to believe that a well meaning right (Republicans) are contesting a well meaning left (Democrats)? Therefore, a compromise is in the offing, lest the “full faith and credit of the United States” be compromised.

Here’s how it’s worked in Greece for the last two years:
When Greece needs money, it borrows from the rest of the world. It can’t create any more of its own debt — Greek’s debt is already about 150 percent of its annual output, so those days are gone.

In less than one hour, the Cohasset Conservation Commission voted 4-0 to support the Selectmen’s Notice of Intent (NOI) for Cat Dam, with a three-year order of conditions. ConCom chairman David Farrag explained that after three years the ConCom could vote to extend the order for 3 or 5 years.

The Cohasset Board of Selectmen mixed it up on purpose.
It is possible that the Cohasset Conservation Commission (only 4 out of 7 can vote on this matter) will finally meet to deliberate and vote on the Selectmen’s Notice of Intent for Cat Dam Monday night (July 25) at 7 p.m. The commission had to cancel Wednesday’s meeting (July 20) because one of the four members who can vote was ill, and three members is not a quorum. If you recall, Selectmen “struck” three voting members from the commission at their meeting last week, one of who was an environmental engineer. Selectmen replaced them with two friends of Cat Dam and one member of the E-20. None of the three can deliberate on this matter, as the hearing has been closed. So it is unclear why the Selectmen did any of this, as this issue will be decided on appeal.

In My Opinion
by Karen Quigley
The Cohasset Grapevine reports that the Democratic Town Committee and many Ds in general are trying to come to grips with last week’s action of their State Committeeman and our Selectman, Fred Koed. Good for them.

Selectman Chairman Ted Carr
Selectman Diane Kennedy
Dear Ted and Diane,
Thanks for doing the right thing last Tuesday. Ted, I watched you try to slow things down several times, divert your board from taking any action on conservation commission re-appointments until selectmen had discussed the matter as a full board.

This Time They’ve Gone Too Far
There was a stunned silence and then someone uttered Unbelievable! A much more polite statement than what was running through my mind.
