Tinytown Unleashed Editorial
My friend Bob Thomas is running for Mayor of Weymouth and he would be an excellent mayor. He’s smart. He not only knows what’s wrong with Weymouth, he knows how to fix what’s wrong. He’s been knocking on doors for the past 7 months and if he doesn’t win, then people will get another 4 years of Mayor Sue Kay, who threw the Tinytown Gazette out of the Whipple Center last year because she didn’t want senior citizens to become confused over our editorials. Did you see Alice? Do you remember the Queen of Hearts whose solution to everything was “Off with their heads!” That’s Susie. She never did return the Tinytown Gazettes she had destroyed. Nor did she ever apologize.

She brings many skills to the table and has helped the team develop a winning strategy.

The redistricting process is almost complete. (Street Guy)
Let’s take a look how the South Shore did.
Braintree State Rep. Mark Cusack a.k.a. Nick Collins, relative of Braintree Mayor Joe Sullivan and Norfolk County D.A. Mike Morrissey will have Braintree all to himself. This will be a good town to start an XXX adult bookstore; Rep. Cusack is, allegedly, in to XXX. (Street Guy)

We were unable to speak with any elected town officials about this before press time; alas, we always run into our best stories at deadline. (See related articles on Cat Dam by going to Categories to right) (Cohasset Selectmen).
But according to un-officials, the Attorney General’s (AG) Office had the same question Selectman Diane Kennedy had about three of her fellow board members appointing three new members to the conservation commission at their July 12 meeting.

The departure of John Stanbrook, the Town’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), has been in the making for a while and should come as no surprise to those paying attention.
While there have been rumors and innuendos that the irregularities in past accounting practices and procedures continue to emerge with no end in sight, it is probably more than a coincidence that his resignation followed closely the appearance of Water Commission chair Peter DeCaprio before the BOS – and the support DeCaprio received from its chair Ted Carr at the expense of everyone involved with the Town’s accounting.
Essentially, DeCaprio delivered a diatribe against the Water Commission’s treatment by the Town’s CFO, Auditors, Interim Town Manager Steve Lombard, Town Manager Mike Coughlin and the MA DOR; all of whom had concluded that the water enterprise fund had a deficit and some of whom had predicted this eventuality.
Skipping agilely from cash to accrual, from one time period to another, he laid out a case that there was no deficit. His monologue was uninterrupted by anyone including selectman Paul Carlson who on many occasions has referred to his financial expertise especially as it relates to oversight of the water enterprise fund.
It concluded with chairman Carr throwing the offending parties under the bus by ordering the Town Manager to have the Auditors contact DeCaprio posthaste and remedy this situation.
This was distinctly not the support our financial managers are both entitled to and had every expectation to receive in response to DeCaprio’s allegations against those not present but unanimous in their conclusions.
It is ironic to compare the near subservience afforded DeCaprio by the BoS with the exact opposite treatment of the three dis-appointed ConCom members. (Departing CFO)
In its simplest form, the argument that DeCaprio advanced was that, if allowed full credit for its receivables, the water enterprise fund would not show a deficit. He conveniently ignored one important fact: the State, in wisdom bred from dealing with the financial improprieties of politicians, requires each town to settle up its financial affairs each year on a cash basis, i.e., accrued receivables do not count.
It is that mindset of applying hoped for future revenue against existing expenses that caused the previous insolvency. Have our elected officials learned nothing? (Departing CFO)

John Stanbrook, recently appointed Cohasset Town Accountant and Director of Finance, will return to his old job in Mansfield at the end of the month, according to Town Manager Mike Coughlin. Coughlin announced Stanbrook’s leave-taking at the conclusion of a Capital Budget meeting last night. He said he had received Stanbrook’s resignation that same day; Stanbrook was reappointed Town Accountant in Mansfield on a 5-1vote.
Coughlin said Stanbrook’s resignation would delay the new accounting system somewhat, as it’s important for town people to train on the same. Eric Kinsherf, a CPA from Sagamore Beach, has been hired to assist the Town Manager in closing the books. Coughlin said he also hired the public accounting firm of Sullivan and Rogers to take over the Treasury/Collector function.
It is known that the Town of Mansfield was upset when Stanbrook (Cohasset Town Accountant) left them for Cohasset and had repeatedly up the anti to get him back. Rumors around Town Hall say Stanbrook was upset over the state of the Town’s financial dilemma; at a recent meeting before Capital Budget Coughlin noted that the Town had 3 sets of books.
